PDF Compressor
Reduce the file size of a PDF right in your browser. Works best for scanned documents and image-heavy PDFs. Your file is never uploaded to a server.
What this PDF compressor does
It makes a PDF smaller so it is easier to email, upload to a form, or share. Everything runs in your browser, so your file is never sent to a server.
The tool reduces size by rebuilding each page as a compressed image. That is why it shrinks scanned documents and photo-heavy PDFs the most. Because pages become images, the text in the compressed file is no longer selectable or searchable — if you need the text to stay selectable, keep your original.
How to use it
- Upload your PDF.
- Choose a compression level — Balanced is a good starting point.
- Click Compress PDF and compare the original and new size.
- Download the smaller file.
Why didn't my PDF get much smaller?
If your PDF is mostly text, it is probably already small and well optimized, so there is little to remove. This compressor helps most when a PDF contains scans or large images. For text PDFs, removing unneeded pages with Split PDF can be more effective.
Frequently asked questions
How much smaller will my PDF get?
It depends on the file. Scanned documents and PDFs full of photos can shrink a lot; PDFs that are mostly text are already small and may not reduce much.
Will the text still be selectable?
No. The tool rebuilds each page as a compressed image, so text becomes part of the image and is no longer selectable or searchable. Keep your original if you need the text.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Compression happens entirely in your browser, so your PDF stays on your device.
What if the compressed file is bigger?
That can happen with text-only PDFs that are already optimized. In that case, keep the original or try removing pages with Split PDF instead.
